About scissor lifts

A scissor lift raises the vehicle on a folding frame with no columns in the way, and folds flat when it is not needed. Low- and mid-rise units work at bench height; full-rise models do everything a two-post does.

What to check before you order

• Rise height — low-rise suits wheel and body work, full-rise lets you stand under the car
• Surface mount or flush mount, and whether you can cut the floor for a recess
• Lowered height, which decides what ground clearance the lift can accept
• Portability if the bay has to do other work when the lift is not in use
